The sopprt for the hunger strikers in Strasbourg is growing rapidly. The committee established to raise support for the hunger strike is working tirelessly. The committee has arranged a signature campaign containing the demands of the strikers that will be presented to the European Council.
A delegation from the European Parliament visited the hunger strikers. The visitors were Jurgen Klute and Marie Christine Vergiat from the European Parliament Left Group and Anna Miranda from the European Parliament Green’s Group.
Fuat Kav presented the demands of the strikers to the visitors. Kav stated that their primary demand was for Ocalan to be freed and that this was not impossible. Kav said “even a few days before Mandela was freed it seemed highly unlikely that it could happen, however, after a process of a year or two he was freed and became the president of South Africa. It has been 8 months since our leader last saw his solicitors. His solicitors have been arrested. We are seriously concerned for our leader’s health and our immediate demand is for him to be able to see his solicitors. The freedom of our people is dependent on the freedom of Ocalan and therefore it is true that the conflict can only be permanently ended if he is freed.”
After Kav’s speech the visiting parliamentarians stated that they will do everything they can to realize the strikers demands.
